Sport's Day is a two-day event that is held at the end of the school year. One day is designated for the 1st-3rd grade students and the second day is the for the 4th-5th graders. The event lasts 3 hours and consists of ten relay/game stations for the students to rotate through. The students are broken into ten groups of approximately 35-40 students per group and they spend approximately ten minutes at each station. In 2010, the stations consisted of: bucket brigade relay, sponge relay, scoop ball toss, parachute volley, basketball, baton relay, frisbee toss, potato sack races, tug of war, and football.
This event is typically held the Thursday and Friday prior to the last day of school. The students enjoy participating and especially enjoy the water activities.
Become A Chair/Co-chair
**We are currently looking for someone to help Elise and become a co-chair.**
The event chair or co-chairs are responsible for the coordinating the following items:
- Gather each of the stations inventory a prior to the event. The station signs and some of the inventory is located in one of the HSC sheds. Other inventory is gathered from the PE equipment, PE shed or recess equipment.
- Print out the student grouping sheets and place them in the teacher's lounge, so that the teachers can assign students to each of the rotating groups.
- Keep the teachers informed of the day's schedule and their volunteer assignments.
- Arrive early on the event days (6:30a) to setup the stations.
- Coordinate the sound system and music to play during the event.
- Setup the i-volunteeronline.com for the parent volunteers and send home a flyer notifying the parents.
If you are interested in becoming a co-chair this year or a chair/co-chair for next year contact Elise at sportsday@graystonehsc.org
Become a Parent Volunteer
This is one of the most fun and easiest events to help out at. The kids are all excited to be out on the field and blacktop for a fun day of play. All the events are set up and ready to go. All the parent volunteers do is help the kids have fun.
Parent volunteers are responsible for the following items:
- Sign-up online via i-volunteeronline.com (this will be set up closer to the event -- if you want to volunteer now send email to sportsday@graystonehsc.org) or the flyer sent home.
- Arrive 15 minutes early the day of the event to read over the directions for their station's activity.
- Work with one or two other parents to facilitate the activity at their station. This includes explaining the directions, starting the activity, keep students participating, and facilitate the rotation to the next station.
