Both databases feature built in reading and research tools, and are expertly leveled for emerging readers. Audio supports navigation, and all articles include narrated text and highlighting.  This is a fun site where kids can learn about animals and the earth.  It includes videos, facts, and a fun game section where kids can learn and play at the same time.  Graystone has a membership.

A fun, educational site where kids can go to learn their spelling and heart words through games and activities. Ask your teacher if she has inputted her spelling lists.

wblogo.jpgWorld Book Online (worldbookonline.com) – Another great, safe site for our students.  Packed with games that are both fun and educational.  World Book Classroom is great for kindergarten through second grade.  World Book Kids and World Book Student is a great resource and site for second through fifth grades.

khan-logo-vertical-transparent.pngKhan Academy (khanacademy.org) – (from the Khan Academy about page) "A library of videos that covers K-12 math, science topics such as biology, chemistry, and physics, and even reaches into the humanities with playlists on finance and history. Each video is a digestible chunk, approximately 10 minutes long, and especially purposed for viewing on the computer.


Students can make use of the extensive video library, practice exercises, and assessments from any computer with access to the web.

AR BOOK FINDER (arbookfind.com) – Looking for some weekend reading for your child? Teach them to search the online books at their reading level! It's quick, easy, and you can print the list and take it with you to the library.

Click HERE to search for titles, view lists of award winners (collections), and search by your child's reading level. The H&SC helps fund this valuable resource in improving your child's reading skills!

Keep some extra books handy in your car or in your purse, and you can find some extra time to read with your child when you least expect it! Soccer practice running a little late? Read to the sibling! Stuck in line somewhere? Take turns reading aloud!

Here's the color chart our kids use in school to figure out which books they should be reading:

0.0-1.9 pink
2.0-2.9 orange
3.0-3.9 blue
4.0-4.9 yellow

RENAISSANCE HOME CONNECT – Renaissance Home Connect provides parents with a snapshot of their child’s reading and math progress. Renaissance Home Connect is where you, the parents, can go to see how your child(ren) are performing and progressing.  There are three parts to the Renaissance Home Connect program – Accelerated Reader, Accelelrated Math, and Math Facts in a Flash. Progress reports include average percent correct on quizzes, number of points earned or math objectives mastered, and results on the last math or reading quiz.

Your child’s teacher will provide you with the Web address for Renaissance Home Connect (or click the link above). The same login and password that your child uses at school will work at home and will be the same throughout your child(ren)'s years at Graystone.
